Ecco a voi l'album degli olandesi The Gathering dove fa il suo riuscitissimo debutto un' imberbe -nonchè talentuosa- fanciulla chiamata Anneke van Giersbergen,ovvero una delle vocalist che rimarrà sempre nel gotha delle mie favorite.
E' un vero peccato che abbia lasciato i The Gathering:ritengo che negli Agua de Annique non sfrutti al massimo le sue ottime capacità.

Mandylion è un album che non cessa mai di emozionare,è un gioiellino da trattare coi guanti bianchi.
Brani come Strange Machines,Eleanor,In Motion e Fear the sea riescono a penetrare le difese del contegno con cui maschero il mio volto ogni giorno e ad entrare dentro,silenti come farfalle malate, bruciando sotto la pelle.
L'album deve essere ascoltato e digerito con estrema calma,non può essere liquidato su due piè.
Non merita di esserlo.

Oggi metallari cari e fedeli tutti,la zia Croweloner vi propone qualcosa di insolito (e che non è detto debba piacervi per forza).
Sicuramente non si tratta di uno dei miei album preferiti,ho soltanto voglia di postare qualcosa di diverso.


Quando mi avvicinai all'ascolto di Frozen Circus tempo fa,iniziai a provare emozioni contrastanti.Una parte di me avrebbe voluto cestinare questo prodotto che agli inizi mi pareva una manifestazione aberrante della natura bella e buona,un'altra mi costringeva a riascoltare l'album più volte prima di emettere un verdetto finale.Alla fine mi affidai al mio scarso buonsenso e ripetei l'operazione.
Con il cervello in pappa,più confuso che altro,dovetti riconoscere la bravura di questi tizi polacchi matti da legare (si credono gli eredi di Moira Orfei,poveri loro...chissà cosa fanno col coniglio delle promo).
L'album è capace di accontentare un po' tutti i palati,essendo una singolare mistura di generi (spazia dal gothic al progressive).Personalmente preferisco gli ultimi brani,un po' più doom dei primi (dove il nostro vocalist urla a squarciagola).Degne di nota sono sicuramente le influenze progressive che fanno prendere ai brani spesso delle piacevoli pieghe inaspettate.
In parole povere:la voce non mi entusiasma ma i musicisti ne sanno una più del diavolo.Ecco perchè vi segnalo quest'album che gli amanti delle sonorità progressive non potranno non apprezzare.Peccato soltanto che l'insieme appaia troppo caotico,a cominciare dalla prima traccia The Force of Your Heart (Retrospection è soltanto l'intro) .
